Day 5 - Translation Frustrations

I have been struggling to communicate at times in Spanish with the locals. We sometimes use google translator to decipher each other’s words but it is not always accurate. In fact often the translation is laughably off. For example our homestay mother was trying to give us directions but the translation turned into what sounded like garbled gossip about a man named Fred who didn’t like potatoes.
While at a grocery store a group member noticed these ice creams that said “vainful”, and next to them another ice cream that said “sin”. We joked that to an American the ice cream here could be misunderstood as treats only for the vain and sinful. It was a funny moment making odd connections only English speakers would notice when seeing a foreign language.
